High school students tend to have trouble choosing the perfect book for them to read. Many kids are just uninterested in reading. But I have a book that will meet all the needs of the typical high school student that will result in a new found love of literature and reading. What is this book you may ask? The Fault In Our Stars by John Green is the perfect book for students to escape from their lives.

Why is this book perfect for the teen population? Well it’s about teens of course. This book outlines the story of two teenagers with cancer who fall in love. It sounds cheesy, but Green makes it meaningful and moving. It really made me think about how important each moment is and how we should always forgive and accept people because you never know when it will be the last time you see them.

The two teenagers the book is about, Hazel and Gus, both have a history of cancer. They meet through a support group for kids with the illness. The attraction was instant and they soon bond over a certain interest that takes them on a wild journey.

Author John Green hits it out of the park with this one. Most kids have probably heard of him; he is very huge on social networking sites like Tumblr and YouTube. He has his own YouTube channel with his brother and loves to interact with his fans, the nerd fighters. In The Fault In Our Stars, he tells the story from the point of view of the girl in the relationship, Hazel. His writing style is very humorous and a bit corny, but it works perfectly with the story.

Green is a pro at weaving in hilarious moments that will make you laugh, although the novel takes a serious tone; whenever dealing with a terminal sickness things tend to be serious. He is able to turn certain aspects of the illness into relatable situations. For example, having to carry around your oxygen tank can be embarrassing to a teenager with an illness, just like have a huge zit on your forehead would be.

Although I strongly believe that anybody would love this book, if you absolutely hate love stories and reading about serious issues that are happening in the world like illness, then I would not recommend this book. If you do love reading about those things and want to enjoy something with a strong and powerful message, then this is the book for you.

Green takes the meaning of teenage love to a whole new level in this funny, interesting, and emotional novel. If you want a book that you can’t put down, a book that will teach you sincere life lessons, and a book with beautiful quotes that you will always remember, then I 100% recommend this book to you.
