The “No ShamPoo” Method

The “No ShampPoo”, also known as the “No Poo” method may sound strange at first, but might actually be a good thing, for your hair at least. The No Poo method includes both men and women, however, it is mainly women who decide to not wash their hair with shampoo. This beauty trend has people all over the world following it, and it’s actually a good thing.

Hair contains natural oils called sebum in its follicles which keeps your hair conditioned and healthy. When washing hair frequently with harsh chemicals such as shampoo, the oils are stripped away, which could lead to immense hair damage.

When doing anything strenuous, it can lead to excess oil build-up and unfortunately makes it so much harder to style, making us have the need to wash our hair with shampoo again, creating a vicious cycle.

That’s where the No Poo method comes in.

The theory of No Poo is this: by washing hair with a gentle alternative to shampoo, such as baking soda and apple cider vinegar or just water, you’ll achieve clean hair without the damage or dependency on shampooing frequently and more than necessary. So instead of allowing chemicals in shampoo to strip your hair, strip away the chemicals instead, and stop using shampoo altogether.

However many people are skeptical of this idea in saying that it is routine to do such things, and doing the No Poo method would increase oil build-up, and without shampoo they’ll feel gross.

“The hair’s sebaceous oil glands are triggered to release extra sebum when they sense the hair drying out. By over-washing, you remove hair’s natural conditioning and send the oil glands into a frenzy to replenish what was lost,” says source NoPooMethod. In short, the hair will overproduce oils when they feel that the hair is dried out. And over-washing removes the hair’s natural conditioning, so the hair glands will want to take back what’s lost, and over-produce it.

However many people have broken the cycle, saying that it’s completely worth it. Although it takes almost two to six weeks with oily hair to eventually get to the No Poo state, when you get to the stage however it’s one of the best things to have happened.
