Community members rolled in to view three boats and almost three hundred pieces of art that were produced by twenty IB Art students in the Black Box on April 1st.

IB Art teacher Stephanie Nixon felt that the opportunity to present artwork is a privilege and an honor, which helped hold the bar high for all of these students. Each student spent two years producing artwork to not only get graded for IB, but to show to the community at the art show.

The IB Art show has been a tradition for the last six years but it is not necessary that all students participate.

“The show is completely student-run and all the students have a choice to do it,” Nixon said. “It’s practical based learning; it’s for their own experience.”

This year, all of the IB artists chose to celebrate two years of hard work and showcase everything they have produced. Senior Libby Dowley was excited to showcase her artwork.

“IB Art was nice because unlike the other IB classes, you have more to show at the end and that was fulfilling,” Dowley said.

The artwork varied from boats crafted by Drew Soliday to pillows created by Leigh Sandbach to portraits drawn by Shelby Zasacky.

The students not only enjoyed showcasing their artwork, they also loved the class. Leigh Sandbach felt strongly that IB Art is a worthwhile course.

“I loved being able to work with new mediums and Stephanie was always extremely helpful,” Sandbach said.

Dowley agreed that the class wouldn’t have been the same without Stephanie and the group of students that were involved.

“I know my work wouldn’t have been the same without the inspiration and advice from Stephanie and the other students,” Dowley said. “Art will always be there for me as an outlet.”
