Shine Your Skis

Shine your skis and get ready for some Nordic steeze. It’s anticipated to be a competitive season.

This season starts November 13th and this year, returning Nordic skier seniors Hudson McNamee, Hannah Dodge, and Else Dodge, and sophomore Nick Sweeney are going to lead the skiers. At States last year, McNamee placed 8th and Sweeney placed 6th in boys. Hannah Dodge placed 11th and Else Dodge placed 8th in girls. They all expect to do better with the new season coming up.

“We’re going train so we can hopefully win States. It’s my senior year and I have to make the most of it,” Hannah Dodge said.

Working hard and being determined are important in Nordic, especially when it’s your senior year. Aside from working hard, McNamee has a set goal and plans on achieving it.

“I am going to put my mind to it this year. I’m setting a high goal of reaching 3rd in states. If it’s my last chance, I have to do well,” McNamee said.

Underclassmen hope to contribute to the team as well. I wasn’t sure what kind of work or what technique has to go into something like Nordic skiing.

“The hardest part of Nordic has got to be the technique and getting in shape. The Nordic team and I are going to work as hard as ever this season. Let’s go!” Nick Sweeney said.

Nick Sweeney has an enthusiasm for the sport, as does his little brother Jack.  Because it’s a new year, there are new freshmen who expect to excel in the sport. Daisy McClure, among others, joins Jack Sweeney, and is planning on training hard and making an impact for the team this year.

“I’m so excited to absolutely slay in the races! I plan on killing it in states and hopefully I’ll show up Nick,” said Jack.

Coming in as a freshman with high expectations is a lot of pressure. It takes commitment and pre-season work.

“When I get ready for the season I roller ski, weight train, and run. All that good stuff. You have to be ready to train hard and get competitive,” McClure said.

This new season will be something to keep your eye on. Everyone will be working hard and pushing themselves to the next level. There will be new and old competitors striving to achieve that first place in states.
