To school or not to school?

AHS students have been forced to transfer to online learning, and with this, there have been a lot of mixed feelings about the transition. Students either love online learning and don’t ever want to go back to school, or they hate the online format and want nothing more than to go back to in-person learning.

Students have to be able to use their time management skills to balance all of the different classes and the assignments that go along with them. These skills are required because they are more open-ended for when students decide to do their work. For some, this is an easy task, but for others, it may seem impossible.

Not only do some students struggle with time management, but also with finding the motivation to do the work assigned. It is hard for students to close that Netflix tab, turn off the TV, or get off FaceTime with friends to do their schoolwork. This is in contrast to those students who are able to self motivate and are able to get their work done.

A current student at AHS, Avery Hirsch, has been coping with the transition rather well. She enjoys the freedom, and the ability to move at her own pace.

“I miss my friends, but this kind of learning has been eye-opening. I actually love it\; I finish everything in my own time. The freedom is amazing,” Hirsch said.

Another student, junior Maya Abraham, has not been taking the transition as well. She has been struggling with the change and has been completely overwhelmed with all of the stress that comes with the online learning format.

“I miss the closeness of school and the structure. I feel like my grades are plummeting and not because I am not doing the assignments, but because I don’t understand the assignment and what is expected of me,” Abraham said.
