Movies where robots take over the world are constantly being created. I, Robot (2004), Wall-E (2008), The Terminator(1984), RoboCop(1987), they’re everywhere. In these movies, those once innocent pieces of technology begin to only serve humans to help, soon develop souls, and human-like features become so advanced that humans are scared and at a disadvantage to Artificial Intelligence. I am begging you to be afraid of what this technology can do because I am afraid of it myself. And somehow if these films and dystopian tales, didn’t serve as a big enough warning to you, then here is another.
It is hard to separate real and artificial these days. Clickbait has become more relevant, and news has become harder to decipher from real or fake. And school essays have grown to be significantly easier, I am joking of course. Now I do want to acknowledge that not all forms of AI are detrimental to the human race. AI is rapidly growing, especially in health care. Many hospitals have been implementing devices to find diseases and cancer, helping reduce mistakes made by doctors. Still, I would prefer a human to operate on me. The biggest reason I dislike AI is not because of what it’s doing to “help humans” but what it is taking away. I love to write, yet AI can instantly write a top-tier essay if I ask it to. Usually, this work is detectable; however, sometimes it’s hard to tell, which makes me devastated that people don’t see the beauty of creativity and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with completing an assignment. It is sad that some humans don’t see the appeal in writing anymore.
As someone interested in pursuing a marketing career in college, AI worries me. I might not have a job in a few years pursuing a degree that people might not need humans for. AI’s ability to quickly come up with slogans, clever trademarks, and images for branding makes me wonder: who needs an actual human to do the job? I say this all out of love, not hate, but why is no one else realizing that artificial intelligence is slowly eating away at the human race?
In my eyes, the future in many ways can easily be replaced with AI doing tasks, but then how will humans make a living when a robot doesn’t need to get paid? Yes, a machine can work nonstop, but that machine doesn’t have a family or kids at home who need money for college. AI would be amazing if it cleaned for me or did other tasks that no one wants to do so that we, humans, can have time in the day to prioritize the creative, and hands-on things in the world. I am not scared of it, but I am scared of what it could do in the future. Art should be an outlet, a creative way to express one’s self through painting, song, or writing. Please do not let artificial intelligence take that away from you. Thank you, reader! Only 99% of this was written by ChatGPT.
