X Games Returns With In Person Spectators Allowed
On Tuesday, ESPN announced the return of X Games at Buttermilk Ski Area, and the return of in person spectators.
This was an exciting announcement, as there were no spectators at the 2021 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. X Games Aspen 2022 will feature skiing and snowboarding, with the Women and Men’s Superpipe, Big Air, Slopestyle, and Knuckle Huck.
ESPN’s press release said, “X Games Aspen 2022 will welcome spectators back to competition viewing and X Fest areas with proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, and masks must be worn in all indoor X Games event areas except when eating or drinking.
The ESPN press release continued with discussing youth vaccination requirements, and additional face mask provisions.
“Fans 11 years old and under may attend without vaccination if accompanied by a vaccinated adult and must wear a form-fitting face mask at all times except when eating and drinking,”said ESPN
The event will take place over the weekend of January 21 to 23, and there will be no motorsports. As for online coverage of X Games, ESPN and ABC will be streaming more than 13.5 hours of live coverage across the globe, where viewers can safely watch some of the largest names in winter sports perform.
Jamie Anderson, Scotty James, Gus Kenworthy, Henrik Harlaut, Chloe Kim and Mark McMorris will all be returning this year, and will likely be their last competition before the 2022 winter olympics.
According to the ESPN press release, “X Games Aspen is the world’s best action sports event showcasing the biggest names in snowboarding and skiing.”
