Boys’ Lacrosse Wins First Playoff Game
Defeats Evergreen 20-7
The AHS boys’ varsity lacrosse team came up strong on Tuesday, May 6, in the first round playoff game and defeated Evergreen with a 20-7 victory.
The team played aggressively, holding a fierce pace throughout the entire game. Passing between defensemen and midfielders, as well as between the attack was spectacular and everyone gave the game a great effort.
Near the end of the second quarter, a goal scored by our team landed in our net. Alas, we were up eleven to six by halftime, securing a strong lead going in to the second half of the game.
“The boys played strong and Nick (Nicky Cottrell) and Fitzie (Ryan Fitzgerald) tore it up,” sophomore Nick Hanle said.
Tyler Tick had an excellent goal in the second quarter in addition to the other ten scored. Well-placed passes by the attack provided for many scoring attempts and opportunities. The boys kept up the shots on net and pressured Evergreen into forcing plays and ultimately forfeiting the ball to our team.
Matthew Sovich, a senior at AHS and varsity lacrosse player said, “The first quarter started slowly. Then the attack started clicking in the second quarter and the defense played outstandingly in the second half, only letting up one goal. I’m excited to possibly play Battle Mountain for a rivalry rematch.”
Overall, the team had an excellent game and earned a well-fought victory. Teamwork and sportsmanship were demonstrated by the teams, and by the fans supporting their respective teams as well. The second round playoff game will take place on Friday, May 9.
