How can the student body contribute ideas for the school to you? “If they have a great idea or have an idea that can help us, I just really want them to come to either Gaby or me to tell us what they think and we can rally the message on.”
How can we improve the school? “I think the main thing we can do to improve the school is improve the communication between the students, the faculty, and the administration.”
Perfect date: “Going out to a nice dinner, maybe, depending on who it is, a movie and just wander around town at night”
How do you plan on livening up assemblies this year?”I think just realizing the difference between a serious assembly that only needs 5-10 minutes and the fun assemblies where I can have props and have people come up. For those fun assemblies I want to involve every student from every grade as much as I can”
How is it working with Gaby? “Gaby is great. She and I have been president and vice president for the past two years so we already know how to work well together and now it is just another stage.”
What do you want your student body to know about you?“Although I am Head Boy, and may be serious about some tasks, I love to have fun and if anyone has any questions, just approach me. Every student should have a say and I want them to know that they should have a part in this process.”
Meet Gaby Magana
Place of Birth: El Salvadore
Favorite Movie: Clueless
Years on Student Senate: 4
Past Position(s) on Student Senate: Vice President
Extra Curriculars/Sports: She is on the cross country team. She enjoys shopping, running, reading fashion magazines and interning at Aspen Valley Hospital.
Favorite weekend activity: “ Hanging out with friends.”
How can the student body contribute ideas for the school to you? “They can always come and find me or facebook me or Ryer. We can have a suggestion box and have people anonymously write down what they want. We are actually talking about that in Student Senate. I’m also not intimidating so anyone can come up to me and say hi.”
How do you plan on livening up assemblies this year? “Ryer and I could make skits to make assemblies more funny. Music, definitely music. We can also make assemblies fun by having a great contagious attitude. “
Perfect date: “Dinner, he pays of course, and then a movie — a rom com movie!”
How is it working with Ryer? (laughs) “He’s a good guy and we have good communication skills. We both know each other’s opinions, which I think is really important. He does announcements on red days and I do announcements on black days.”
How do you juggle school work, sports, and being in charge of the school? “I make sure that school comes first. My head girl position is next and sports last. I love cross country but it’s not my passion. I make sure I get my work done first and then handle other things.
What do you want your student body to know about you?
“I want them to know that I am really passionate about student senate and I really want to make it a good year for everyone, not just because I’m a Senior.”
