Sounds of Summer

SoundCloud was formed in August of 2007. Now it has over 200 million accounts.

During the summer, you can share your favorite songs and sounds with your friends online, but not just with Spotify and Facebook. With a computer and some clever internet browsing, you can set-up an account on SoundCloud and start today!

SoundCloud was built in August of 2007 to make a platform for artists- ranging from superstars like ASAP Rocky and Drake- and listeners to share and discover music. Since then, it has gained a worldwide following. According to SoundCloud in November 2013, three months after SoundCloud’s fifth anniversary, an average of 12 hours of content was being uploaded by users every minute.

Additionally, 90 percent of tracks were listened to with more than half listened to in the first half hour. An estimated 80 percent of Spotify’s tracks are listened to.

Against Pandora, SoundCloud stacked 180 million more monthly active listeners on average. Pandora reported 70 million whereas SoundCloud reported 180 million.

However, SoundCloud isn’t just an anonymous worldwide following to AHS: SoundCloud hosts music by people in our personal community, including Tristan Niskanen, Talitha Jones, former 2012-2013 head boy Forrest Weihe, 2015 graduate Billy Storm, and more- but it doesn’t stop there. SoundCloud also hosts over 100 accounts of AHS students and graduates who chose to just repost and share music that someone else posted.

Users can choose to download and stream through SoundCloud on multiple different platforms, including tablet, smartphone, computer, and now even the Apple Watch. On May 18, SoundCloud released that its Apple Watch App is ready on its blog.

With more platforms than ever, SoundCloud continues to impact and shape AHS culture.
