7 Ways To Brighten Up Your Room
With spring on its way and the weather getting warmer, I’m feeling an urge in the air to clean and redecorate. However, although many people know they want a change, they can come up short on ideas. If you want to spruce up your room in time for the new season, here are seven ways to make your room feel and look new and bright!
- Rearrange the furniture: Even if it’s something as small as switching the places of your bedside table and your desk, it can work miracles on the atmosphere of your room. Simply moving furniture around, no matter how slight the change, will give your room a fresh and new feel.
- Hang up lights: You’ve probably seen it all over tumblr, but stringing festive lights around your room can make it feel like a completely different place. Not only does it literally brighten your room, but it also provides a nice change from a harsh overhead light while still lighting the entire room, unlike a bedside lamp. Whether you are reading a book before bed or are cozied up watching Netflix, lights strung around your room will create the perfect calm and relaxing mood you need before you sleep.
- Create a picture collage: What better way to decorate your room than with pictures of you and your friends and family? With a bulletin board reminding you of all your favorite memories and best times, you’ll never be lonely in your room again.
- Clean (and not just the kind where you stuff everything into the back of your closet): Whether your desk is crowded with papers left over from your 8th grade English class or your closet is overflowing with stretched out Abercrombie and Fitch shirts, cleaning will give your room a fresh feel. Not only does a clean room look better, but it always feels great to not have to dig through piles of old and meaningless junk to find your favorite pair of jeans or pencil sharpener.
- Buy candles: Nothing feels nicer at the end of the day than coming home and being able to relax in the sanctuary of your room. However, why not make things nice for yourself? Having two or three candles that you can light even for just 15 minutes every night will make your room even more relaxing, and as a bonus, your room will smell wonderful;.
- Get new bedding: If you’ve had the same butterfly or racecar bedding since 6th grade, it might be time for a change. Changing your bedding will most definitely give your room a fresh look, and you’ll be even more excited to get into bed after a long night of homework.
- Get rid of that one random thing you really don’t need: Admit it. We all have that one thing in our room that we just have no idea why, but for some reason have kept it for years. Mine’s a huge framed picture of the letter O. Whatever it is, getting rid of it will eliminate clutter, and most probably make you feel better about going into your room (and it will probably make your friends more comfortable too).
