Luke Ryan: Head Boy
“Vote Luke Ryan, your #1 candidate for the #1 school in Colorado!”
Q: Why are you running for head boy?
A: Well, running for head boy has been a plan of mine since freshman year and one of the things that I love about our school is that we do really well with academics and extracurriculars, but my biggest thing is school spirit. I am obsessed with our school and I think our school is amazing so I want other people to see how amazing our school is. I think the best thing I can do to help with school spirit is to be head boy and to really help in celebrating our school.
Q: What is your favorite thing about AHS?
A: It is a small school and that we can build on that and create a community. You can see someone in the hallway that you do not necessarily sit with at lunch, but you still know them and can say hi to them. We can be friends with everyone. We are a very open and accepting group of students.
Q: What are some specific issues in the school that you would like to target and change?
A: Community, for sure. I really respect tradition like seniors getting the boat and upperclassmen having more advantages, but I do think that we can work more on being better to each other. I think this helps school spirit too. I want to build an aura in the school that you can be you and not worry about others.
Charlie Van Allen: Head Boy
Q: Why are you running for head boy?
A: I am running for head boy because I have always had an interest in this school and in leading our school towards a better and more inclusive future. I have loved this school ever since I was a freshman and I believe that if I become head boy then I will be able to further the culture of our school and make our school more inclusive of everyone.
Q: How would you help to improve school spirit?
A: I have a lot of great ideas on how to improve school spirit, but I think the main thing that I would bring would be an enthusiasm for everything that has to do with AHS. I want everyone to feel a sense of accomplishment and a sense of importance in our school and I believe that I could increase the involvement and the interest in not only the sports here at AHS but also other things like debate club, the theater class, the dance team and the band.
Q: What are some specific issues in the school that you would like to target and change?
A: The main problem that I see in our school is the lack of school spirit we have. In recent years attendance at sports events and other school events has plummeted and I feel as though to have a truly successful and fun school we need to increase the amount of enthusiasm we have for our school and for everything in AHS.
Harry Kahn: Head Boy
“Stay calm and vote for Kahn!”
Q: Why are you running for head boy?
A: I am running for head boy because I have been in student senate since I was a freshman at AHS and am truly passionate about my involvement in the AHS community. Additionally, I want to be able to give the student body a voice and create a more successful dialogue between students and the administration. I feel that this year specifically there have been some concerns regarding administration decisions that have left many students confused or upset. I want to try and fix that because that is a huge issue.
Q: What do you think you could bring to AHS that no one else could?
A: I feel that I can bring a unique voice to AHS politics. I participate in a spectrum of activities that ranges from athletics to academics to the arts, and I feel I can successfully represent a spectrum of different kinds of students with similar interests to me.
Q: What are some specific issues in the school that you would like to target and change?
A: Specifically, I would work to make sure that students are able to air any potential concerns, personal or general, with the new schedule for next year. Also, I would definitely try my absolute hardest to make some necessary changes to the lunchroom menu (coffee is at the top of my list.
Claire O’Sullivan: Head Girl
“A vote for Claire means you care!”
Q: Why are you running for head girl?
A: I believe I could bring something different to the table than what we have seen in the last couple of years. I was debating running for a long time because I have witnessed the commitment and importance of the position over the years, and I’m aware that it’s no easy task. Eventually I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t a decision I had to make for myself but rather for the school. I want a head girl who is not serious all the time, yet knows how to make a change and get things done. I want someone who can get the school excited about pep-rallies and can add their own twist to the morning announcements, yet their representation of the student body’s voice is respected and trusted. I am running for head girl not because it looks good on a resume or because it looks fun, but because I truly believe I’m the only contender that can fulfill all these qualities the school needs.
Q: What do you think you could bring to AHS that no one else could?
A: I think I have the ability to entertain and include a wider range of people than any other candidate. If I’m head girl I intend to have a round personality in that I can be humorous at times and serious at times. In the past I’ve witnessed head girls who are often either of these two, and I believe I can fulfill these characteristics because of my experience in student senate as well as my outgoing personality.
Q: What are some specific issues in the school that you would like to target and change?
A: I think the unification of our school is a bigger problem than people are addressing, I mean there are people that sit in the hallway because they don’t feel they belong in the commons. Because of this, I would try to increase the importance as well as the participation in unity week and continuously encourage everyone to get involved. Corresponding with that, the lack of spirit in our school is another priority of mine.
Juliette Woodrow: Head Girl
Q: Why are you running for head girl?
A: I want to run for head girl because I want our class and group high school to leave a lasting impression on the school. I want to have the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself and bigger than student senate. I want to have the opportunity to give our class a voice with administration and within our community.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about AHS?
A: Ex-ed, ski day, the theater program, aeronautics program, sports, clubs
Q: What are some specific issues in the school that you would like to target and change?
A: One of the issues I want to tackle is the lack of communication between the administration and the students. A lot of times there are assemblies during tutorial or during the school day and no one knows what they are about. Principal Mulberry has done a great job of getting student input on his decisions this year and I want to continue this into this year.
