The 2017 AHS volleyball team, led by coach Bailey Holmes, is currently working towards a league championship. This year’s team has shown their strength throughout the season and are determined to compete in the league’s final rounds. The final tournament will take place during the first week of November.

“I think they have a really good chance of winning the league championship. This is the best group that I have seen, regarding getting along with each other and working together as a team” said Holmes.

The team has been successful over the course of this season with a 6-1 record, having only one loss to the undefeated Coal Ridge.

“The other teams are all over the board, we have seen some teams that are really equal, regarding playing ability, as well as teams that are a little bit lower in ability,” Holmes said. “I think we’ll probably see some teams in the future that will give us a hard time.”

The Skier’s varsity players, led by captains Jordan Fox, Mary Williams, and Gaia Murphy, have been paving the way for a new generation of AHS volleyball with hardwork and effort, inspiring the junior varsity and freshman teams.

“I definitely think that we have got some really good roll models on the team this year and I think that the younger girls definitely look up to them,” Holmes said.

Senior, Jordan Fox, varsity captain and editor in-chief of the Skier Scribbler, considers herself lucky to be playing with this team during her last year of highschool volleyball.

“This is my favorite year playing volleyball because this year we have such a close knit group of girls. The program as a whole has been really great and I have loved playing volleyball all four years,” said Fox.

AHS junior, Jasmin Hansen, believes that a championship win is possible, if the team continues to work together and play hard.

“We all get along, I think that’s what makes this year’s team so much stronger, with a better connection than the previous teams, “said Hansen. “I think our friendship helps us with our attitudes towards the game, which helps us play well.”
