Ricky Wojcik and Francesca Seeman Take Over as Head Boy and Girl
A collective cheer ran through the AHS senior class as Ricky Wojcik and Francesca Seeman were elected as this year’s Head Boy and Girl. Towards the end of the 2016/17 school year, a series of campaign speeches and elections determined the leaders of each class. The winners (Wojcik and Seeman) assume the role of student liaisons between the school and the administration.
“I think that the idea that a high school has one boy and one girl to be the liaison between the students, administration, and the community is a really cool concept. In the school, they are a friend and a role model. To the administration, they are the best portal to influence students and in the community. They are the faces of Aspen High School and what the student body stands for,” Seeman said.
Since freshman year Wojcik and Seeman have proven that they are strong candidates for student leadership. Having both been a part of student senate over the course of four years, they are both well aware of the problems that our school faces.
“For my past four years in Student Senate, my goal has always been to increase school spirit. I think spirit is a hard thing to change because it really depends on the student body getting involved and excited about their activities. I think we’ve seen an incredible boost in spirit at the school, and will continue to even when Fran and I are gone,” Wojcik said.
Being a liaison between AHS students and the administration comes with lots of responsibility, while requiring passion and effort. Wojcik and Seeman are taking this role head-on, continuing to build up school spirit with pep assemblies and other school-wide events.
“We get in front of the school a lot and try and make people happy and excited about this awesome time in our lives! There are lots of logistics that go into putting on pep rallies and bonfires, and that requires using the help of Student Senate,” Seeman said. “I truly believe that Ricky and I have amped up the school spirit that was absent in recent years. Also, huge shoutout to the senior class of 2018 because they bring serious hype to everything they do and we couldn’t do it without them!”
The road to becoming a Head Boy/Girl is full of challenges and requires a strong connection to the school. A candidate must have to the ability to relate with both the administration and the student body, in order to create an ideal community at AHS.
“It is a really influential position but you do have to put in extra time and there is a lot of responsibility,” Seeman said. “I think sometimes in the past, the position has been taken too seriously. We are not here to lecture the school or be dominant authoritative figures because that’s for the adults. We just want to create an environment that’s fun and safe.”
