AHS Boys Look For Volleyball Team Start Up
AHS boys watch from the sideline and wonder what it would be like to compete the way the girls do. As the AHS Girls volleyball season kicks off there has never been a boys volleyball team at AHS, but that may change this year…
The prospect of a boys volleyball program has lurked the halls of AHS for some time now but has never gained enough traction to become a real thing. A key player to the girl’s varsity volleyball team, AHS junior Tate Randel, believes a boys team would benefit AHS.
“I think a new boys volleyball team would be a great addition to our school,” Randel said. “I know a lot of guys have been wanting a volleyball team for a while now”
Boys volleyball teams have been non-existent throughout the valley, so AHS has a unique opportunity to start things up. A boys team offers many benefits to the school. For example, adding another sport to our 30+ count, and giving boys a new opportunity. Although there are many benefits, challenges still exist. Choosing an appropriate time to start the season, that also doesn’t interfere with other sports like football or soccer is the main one. AHS senior and football team captain RJ Peshek thinks highly of the idea.
“If the season did interfere with football, I don’t think I would play,” Peshek said. “If it was in the winter I think I would have enough time to fit volleyball in with the hockey season because the practices are held so late at night.”
A boys volleyball program definitely make a positive impact for AHS. “I think a men’s team is a great fit for AHS because it’s just adding another sport that Aspen can be good at,” Radel stated.
