AHS Boys Lacrosse Takes On Trilogy Training Camp
As of last year, during spring break the AHS boys lacrosse team travels to Casa Grande, Arizona, to get some extra training and competition before the remainder of the season. The team has 2-3 practices a day, and occasionally an exhibition game against teams from all over the country. AHS Senior and team captain RJ Peshek believes that it’s a really good way to spend spring break, keep the stick in his hand, and get ready for their upcoming league games in Aspen.
“I’m really glad our team has the option to spend spring break there. It’s a great way to bond with teammates, get better at lacrosse, and it’s in a really great place. This year was my second time being there, and I wish I could go again,” Peshek said. “It is almost too much lacrosse in one week, but being with your friends, being able to meet new kids from other teams, and preparing for the rest of our season in Colorado is worth it. I definitely feel that it gives us a big advantage over other teams that we play back in Aspen.”
The lacrosse team spent 5 days and 5 nights there, with a total of 15 practices, and two games. Aspen faced Fairview High School out of Denver, and West Lynn, based in Oregon. Aspen beat Fairview 10-8, then later losing 18-7 to West Lynn. Sophomore, Robbie Fitzgerald scored a total of 4 goals, including 3 assists against Fairview and West Lynn.
“I was pretty excited that we were able to play Fairview, and especially West Lynn. They’re both pretty big schools so they ended up having a pretty good team. West Lynn has always been a really good team,” Fitzgerald said. “I remember two years ago they only had one loss and had a good amount of college commitments. It’s nice to play teams like that because it’s a learning experience. You get to see what other teams do right and wrong and try to build off them.”
