Divergent Series Comes to an End

Once choice can transform you, destroy you, or define you

Almost everyone has heard of the Divergent series. Yes, all that rave you have heard is well-deserved. Throughout the series Veronica Roth frequently grabs our attention by astonishing the readers with riveting action scenes, passionate love scenes, and suspenseful cliffhangers. This series stands out from all of those ‘could-have-been-really-interesting’ futuristic books through the detail and thought put consistently into each and every moment. The final book in the series, Allegiant, was finally published on October 22. Since the book has been distributed it has received a great deal of enthusiastic reviews from fans all across the world, and I for one would have to join them, and recommend this amazing series.

Each and every scene was plotted out to make the reader feel as if they were there. The story builds a detailed image for the reader using imagery, characterization, diction, and suspense. Through these lit devices the reader is able to feel the excitement, the anticipation, the anxiety, and the thrill that the characters feel. From the simple and quite, to the most exhilarating of the scenes, these books continually engage the reader in the illusion of what potentially lies in our future.

The Divergent series follows the story of a sixteen-year-old girl named Tris, who must choose her fate. The city she lives in is divided into five factions, each one meant to uphold a particular lifestyle: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). On a given day each year, all sixteen-year olds take an aptitude test that will tell them which faction they are best suited for. Now, I’m not going give away the story, but these books will make any reader want to devour the series within a matter of seconds.

“I thought the book was an exquisite piece of literature in which Veronica Roth masterfully portrayed fear, selflessness, and courage. Roth wrote a heart wrenching, yet beautiful book, through wild adventures where Tris was forced to suffer through loss and hardships, while finding her best friends and the man she comes to love,” sophmore Anna Belinski enthusiastically praised the series.

Allegiant, this adventure-packed finale slaps us all in the face with many unexpected reveals, and it has jumped into the creative minds of many young readers. Allegiant is told from the perspectives of both Tris and Tobias (her boyfriend), which can be a bit confusing to follow, but definitely adds to the depth in the story. Allegiant sold nearly half a million copies on the first day, and it continued to sell in abundance for weeks following the release. The finale of the Divergent series has left millions of people across the world with satisfying impressions on the series.

Roth managed to write a phenomenal series that has grabbed many young readers from around the world and reeled them into a riveting story line. These books drove the expectations for future books into the sky. I would 100% recommend this series, and even if you are not a big reader, this series will snatch you right up into a dystopian futuristic world.
