On Tuesday, November 5th, AHS junior Harry Valentine was hit by a truck while walking through the crosswalk at the intersection of Main and Third Street.

Valentine was crossing the street on his way to catch the school bus around 7: 40 am when a truck did not stop at the crosswalk and struck him. A driver who stopped for Valentine in the first lane of traffic got out of his vehicle and called 9-1-1.

“I got to the crosswalk, and the first lane of traffic stopped, and so did the traffic on the other side of the street. As I was crossing the street, the truck, I guess, didn’t see me or something and just plowed through me. The truck hit my left side, and I bounced off it on to the ground. And then at the same time, it also ran over my foot,” Valentine said.

Valentine sustained injuries to his foot, breaking a few Metatarsals (the long bones that lead up to the toes) and fracturing his Lisfranc Joint (the joint connecting the Metatarsals and bones in the foot arch). Additionally, he bruised his ribs and strained his MCL.

“I was in the hospital for like half a day,” Valentine said.

According to the police, the driver drove away from the scene of the accident and later turned back around.

“I never actually met the guy. I don’t know who he is,” Valentine said.
