ASPEN– During the winter, we often fall into routines and forget that our valley is full of fun and interesting things to do. While a lot of them are geared towards tourists, who’s to say that we can’t enjoy those activities with our friends and families as well?

In Aspen, you can start your morning by riding the gondola on Aspen Mountain to the Sundeck for some morning yoga before hitting the slopes. This yoga class is geared towards winter sports enthusiasts and anyone can join. It goes from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m, free mats are provided, and the view is to die for. It’s a great way to start off your day and work on flexibility and strength training to gear up for the winter season.

Looking for a fun date night or night out with friends? Check out Elk Creek in Snowmass Ullr nights, offered every Friday evening from Dec. 18 to April 1. Activities that are offered for Ullr nights include: ice skating, sledding, guided snowshoe tours led by ACES, snowbiking, and tubing. You can also visit Ullr’s ghost ship, make s’mores and drink hot chocolate, while warming up next to a campfire. Live music and lots of food is offered to make your night under the stars magical.

During Nov. 29 through March 27, there are free concerts that take place in Aspen and Snowmass called the Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series. This season-long concert series is meant for all age groups and has featured hit artists like Vampire Weekend, the Greyboy Allstars, and Brett Dennen. The concerts are featured during key events and peak weekends during the season. They are held at unique locations all over Aspen and Snowmass and the acts are announced throughout the season. You can’t go wrong when it comes to free concerts!

For all you snowboarders, you can participate in the Banked Slalom Race on March 26. In order to enter you need to pay a small entry fee. All age divisions are welcome, and are open to 10 and under, 11 to 15, and 16 and older open to both men and women snowboarders. All competitors will have discounted lift tickets available to them after they enter the race.

Every year Anderson Ranch holds an open house to celebrate the holiday season. You can explore the artist’s open studio, where artists in our valley sell their creations. The studio opens at 4:30 p.m. There is also an art activity for kids in the Schermer meeting hall and a holiday dinner offered all at 7 p.m. Candle lit paths add ambiance to this family activity, and get everyone into the holiday spirit!

Want some adventure and excitement to spice up your weekend? Go dogsledding at Krabloonik Dogsledding and Mountain Dining in Snowmass. Pet and cuddle with some dogs, go on a dogsled ride over the slopes of the Snowmass Ski Area, and then eat lunch or dinner in the rustic cabin restaurant next to a warm, wood lit, stove.

There are tons of fun winter activities all over our valley. Not all of these are for tourists only, and a lot of the companies offer locals discounts to make sure that the locals get a chance to experience the fun pastimes in our valley that makes us so popular and so great!
