Girl’s Soccer is the AHS team to watch.

Freshman Kelley Francis led the charge by scoring three goals and defeating CRMS in dominating fashion last Tuesday. The Skiers crushed CRMS as they scored seven of their eight goals in the first half alone.

This game was a fitting representation of the success of the Skiers this year. The Aspen girls soccer team has five wins with only two losses against Coalridge and Basalt this season.
Nicole Buglione, the captain of the Skiers, has a lot of confidence that her team will find success this season and most importantly will bounce back from previous losses.

“The first game against Basalt was rough. The conditions were horrible, and we were put in a situationally different position then we were used too. When we play Basalt at home, I am 100% sure we will win convincingly,” Buglione said.

Buglione has played soccer all four years of high school. Every year Aspen faces Basalt, the rivalry intensifies. Buglione and the Skiers have a higher ceiling than only beating Basalt. The team has aspirations for much bigger things.

“Everyone on the team wants to do really good. We have really passionate girls that think we can go really far this year. I know that it is still early, but I do think we can go really deep in playoffs,” Buglione said.

One of the main reasons that the Skiers have found success so far, and have the potential for future success, is because of the efforts of super- freshman Kelley Francis who is tied for having the most goals in all of Colorado for any grade. Francis averages 2.3 goals a game and already has three hat tricks on the season. The third highest scoring freshman, Delaney Card plays for Aspen’s infamous rival, Basalt. The two freshman will face off in Aspen this week.

Kelly Francis spoke out on her success this season and the team’s success as a whole.

“The team we have is really good. I could not have done as well as I have without my teammates. My success definitely should be just as credited to my teammates. We definitely will beat Basalt, and I have much confidence in going really far this year.” Francis said.
