Senior Jeremy Davis (far right), and juniors Jordan Fox and Dylan DeGraff repping “COWCH” sweatshirts.

Carefully, he scrapes the edge of the card onto the top of the screen, working to spread the ink evenly. For this piece, the sweater is a bleached taupe color. Printed atop is the signature logo: a simply drawn couch with the word “COWCH” written beneath it. This is just one of the many “COWCH” sweaters that Jeremy Davis, a senior at AHS, has created.

In the middle of his junior year Davis started drawing couches in art class. His inspiration? Whenever Davis goes out to hang out, see friends, or go to a party, he always finds himself seeking out the most comfortable couch. His home away from home came to serve not only as a great place to sit back and relax, but also as a muse for his screen prints.

“In the beginning it was just really simply drawn couches with the word ‘couch’ printed beneath. Eventually though I wanted to change it up and make it more weird and unique, so I changed the spelling to ‘cowch’,” Davis said.

The design has started to symbolize Davis and his artistic style. On his first day of school his senior year, he began to create the silkscreen. A thin piece of fabric was tightened to a wooden frame with a rope, and from there the drawing was filled in with paint to block excess ink from seeping through. After just a few short art classes, his silkscreen outline was complete.

Since then, Davis has been custom making sweaters, each one selling for $40. Customers can choose the color of their sweater, whether or not they want it bleached first, and what colors of ink they would like their logo to be printed in. During his art classes (he has at least one every day) Davis prints, dries, and then delivers the finished product.

“Seeing people wearing my stuff makes me feel so warm and happy. I love it,” said Davis.

Eventually, the goal is to turn the design into a local company which will be called “COWCH”. With even more designs that could come out of the potential company, Davis is hoping to keep on capitalizing on his opportunities, share his art, and share “COWCH.”
