Maroon Bells in Aspen, Colorado on a beautiful afternoon

Aspen, Colorado is known for its luxurious vacations, winter sports. But it’s also a fantastic summer destination for people seeking adventure. Students at AHS frequently wonder about how to have the best summer experience. Each year, it’s the same thought process between friend groups. To fix all of your problems, here is a comprehensive guide for making the most of summer 2024 in Aspen.
But before we get into that, here’s a few simple tips: 1.) Don’t forget sunscreen! Over 90% of skin cancer(s) are caused by sun exposure with no sunscreen.
2.) Budget your money carefully! As we know, Aspen can be super pricey, especially for high schoolers.
3.) Stay active! It’s your only time over the year where you’re not being overwhelmed with school! Enjoy it!

Make a Difference You need to volunteer. Not only is volunteering so much fun, but it’s so important for your own happiness, others’ benefit, and it also looks great on college applications. Volunteering could range anywhere from a few hours at the Aspen Animal Shelter to the Aspen Music Festivals. Volunteering builds personal growth, like developing more social skills and meeting new people. It also builds empathy and compassion when engaging with different people who help broaden your perspective.

Adventure Awaits Aspen is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Kicking off your summer with a hike up Maroon Bells is a great way to do it! Everyone knows Maroon Bells is one of the most photographed mountains in North America, but a lot of people don’t even do the hike. The trails are only moderate but with stunning views. Trailblazing Adventures Hiking doesn’t always have to be for the view. Camping is so much fun, especially with friends and family. Some of the best campsites in Aspen include the Silver Bar Campground, Silver Queen Campground, and East Maroon Portal. Camping is already a well-loved activity by students at AHS, but there’s nothing wrong with extra promotion. Other outdoor adventures include mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and rock climbing! All of these activities can be such a fun way to spend your days in nature. Saturday Harvests Not all people are outdoors enthusiasts. Fortunately, there are many other ways to enjoy your summer while not being outdoors all the time. Taking your Saturdays to the farmers markets in Aspen is a great way to spend your time! There are so many things to look at without even having to buy anything. The kettle corn made by 4th grade teacher, Jeff White, is so good, and a town favorite. Art and Imagination Take a stop at the Aspen Art Museum! There are so many fascinating pieces of art there made by such amazing people, it’s almost unforgettable with every trip. In the heart of Aspen, the AAM represents dynamic exhibitions that feature current international artists. The AAM also has hands-on workshops for all ages, where participants can explore different artistic techniques. Peaceful Escapes Sometimes you just need a day to not do anything, and relax. That’s why you can always take a trip down to the Glenwood Hot Springs! With a therapy pool, a large pool, lodging, and dining, this hot spring has all you need for a perfect relaxing day. No matter how you choose to spend your summer, Aspen offers an abundance of activities that cater to all of your interests. Whether you choose to volunteer, hike and camp, explore a museum, or relax at a hot spring, remember to stay active, budget wisely, and never forget to wear your sunscreen.
