Every January, thousands of people explode with excitement as they await watching their favorite winter athletes spin, flip, and turn, competing for the highly competitive Winter X Games gold metal. But, this year it is not only the mind boggling athletes that fans are looking forward to watching on the weekend of January 24th, but the world renowned music icon Tiesto, and Grammy Award Winning band Phoenix.

“X-Games is an event that I look forward to each year. This year I look forward to it more than ever because not only do I get to be in awe over my favorite athletes but I get to watch some of my favorite bands perform right here in my home town.  I could not be more thrilled for the upcoming weekend of music and talent,” said sophomore Zoe Starensier.

Tiesto and Phoenix will highlight the weekend featuring four of the hottest pop performances during the 2014 Winter X Games.

The weekend of great music will kick off on Saturday, January 25th, in Wagner park with two acts playing that evening. It will begin at 4:00pm with Matt and Kim, a high-energy, indie duo from Brooklyn NY.  Following their set, Phoenix will close out the night beginning at 5:15pm.

Phoenix, from Versailles, France, is an alternative rock band.  Their energy won them a Grammy for their album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”.  They have also headlined huge music festivals, including Coachella and Lollapalooza. The decorated band is bringing in fans from all over the country to listen to their performance.

The music is adding another factor into the weekend that opens the doors to interest all kinds of people.

“Bringing in another facet of entertainment to the week’s festivities will certainly bring in another group of fans and people.  Music is a big part of the action in winter sports lifestyle, and to do it in a cool venue like Wagner Park makes it that much more incredible.  Obviously I think it’s great whenever we can drive traffic which this will no doubt do into the resort itself before or after the Games, as our town is like no other,” said John Rigney vice president of events at the Aspen Snowmass Skiing Company.

The incredible music does not end here. Sunday, following the same schedule as Saturday, two more bands will light up Wagner Park.  They will close out the X Games weekend.

First, Axwell, a Swedish dance artist and DJ, will get everyone on their feet dancing and having a great time.  The five-time Grammy nominee will get everyone pumped up for Tiesto, who will close up the show.

Tiesto is a Dutch artist who performed at the opening ceremony at the 2004 Athens Olympics.  He was also voted the greatest DJ of all time by Mixmag. He seems to be the appropriate honored guest to close out the annual Winter X Games.

All four of these shows will benefit the V Foundation for cancer research.  General admission tickets for the shows are 30 dollars and Premium Club Tickets are being sold for 150 dollars.  This package includes heated platform viewing and food and drinks.

With amazing live music and incredibly impressive athletes, this year’s X Games seems to be one that you do not want to miss!
