Aspens food scene is no secret to high-end dining, but the casual dining just got a whole lot more interesting. Silver's Bagel Bar is rested just a couple of blocks away from the base of Aspen Mountain, making it a convenient place to stop for breakfast or lunch. After stopping to see if it lived up to the hype, I can confidently say that Silvers brings a lot more to the table than just a plain, mediocre bagel.
I began by trying a classic. The staff recommended the egg, ham, and cheese everything bagel. The bagel itself was crispy on the outside and relatively soft and fluffy on the inside. It could have been slightly more fresh and more airy in the inside, but overall, the texture was top-notch. It was a little too salty, but the everything seasoning balanced it fairly well. I would give this bagel a 7/10.
The star of the show is the caviar bagel, with the portion of caviar on the bagel being amazingly large. There was a solid 2 tablespoons of caviar on top of the cream cheese smeared bagel. The quality of the caviar is very low, though; it's very salty and fishy, whereas a high-quality caviar would be creamy and melt in your mouth. Although the quality was low, extra points were added for the generous amount of caviar. The final rating is a 6/10.
The iced coffees and chai are delicious. They’re sweet but it's not overpowering, and the quality of both exceeded my expectations. The serving size was perfect, not too big nor too small. I would rate these drinks a 10/10.
Silvers has much more to offer than just the fresh food. They also sell tens of different types of Swedish candy, as well as merchandise and other packaged goods. Their variety of goods earns them a 10/10 on the non-fresh foods section.
The store felt very welcoming and cozy. It could have been better if there were padded seats, such as a bench with cushions. It's a little cold in the store, so cushions could have made it warmer. The staff was very friendly and helpful, so overall the experience was a 9/10. It’s not just a bagel shop, it’s a cozy, eclectic pitstop that brings a much-needed splash of casual character to the base of the mountain.
