The Ex Ed Switch Up

A huge change is coming to Ex Ed in the coming school year. It will be held in the fall rather than the spring. Some students don’t like this idea, but I personally think it will make Ex Ed even better.

Having Ex Ed in the spring, students make great friendships that end up falling apart over the summer. With Ex Ed in the fall students will be able to maintain and build these friendships throughout the school year. If Ex Ed is in the fall, however, it will also allow for better river trips, and local hiking trips. The only real downside is losing skiing trips. That being said, the river and hiking trips should be able to make up for that.

Along with the ability to make better friendships having Ex Ed in the fall will also allow for better, more predictable weather. From my experience while on Ex Ed you’re never sure what kind of spring weather your going to get. I’ve had everything from sunny and 70 to a full-blown blizzard. With Ex Ed in the fall, the weather will be a lot calmer and much more comfortable. This will benefit river trips greatly. In 2013, the river trips got 3 inches off snow overnight, and the kids still had to hit the river the next day. This will not be a problem in the fall.

Regardless of whether Ex Ed is in the fall or the spring, I have some general advice. Appreciate it. Looking back on Ex Ed as I senior I wish I had taken that advice to heart. The more you appreciate these trips that we are so lucky to go on the more you will enjoy them. No matter if you’re on Prostart Ski Instruction or Soul Surfers, just enjoy the experience. Along with that, don’t forget to thank your teachers and the volunteers; without them this wouldn’t be possible. They put so much time and effort into this program and they deserve thanks for it.  These trips have made an impact on me that I could not have received in the classroom.
