George R.R. Martin is expected to release his long-awaited sixth installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire series in late 2016.

George R.R. Martin may very well be the busiest man in Hollywood right now, even though he lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  As his vast Game of Thrones fanbase feverishly anticipates the highly awaited fifth season and sixth literary installment, the mastermind behind the widely popular HBO television series and book series is purportedly also developing a new television project titled Captain Cosmos.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin revealed that in addition to the many projects he is currently involved with, his newest HBO TV show, named after the 1950s science-fiction program The Adventures of Captain Cosmos , should begin airing sometime in late 2016. Martin’s latest TV endeavor chronicles the life of a daring sci-fi writer in 1949 who “tells the stories no one else will dare to tell,”(EW). Martin is co-writing the series with Michael Cassutt, who is also a writer and producer for Syfy’s Z Nation.  Cassutt and Martin have collaborated previously in the 1980’s remake of Twilight Zone.

With this new project in the pipeline and the ongoing demands of collaborating with producers on the Game of Thrones TV series, Martin somehow still is fixated on concluding the sixth book of his immensely popular A Song of Ice and Fire saga, which is the basis for Game of Thrones.

Entitled The Winds of Winter, this sixth installment of the literary series has been long overdue, according to Martin and to the vast majority of his ardent fans.  He has already cancelled multiple interviews and public convention appearances to make time to finish the book.

“I wish it was out now,” Martin told EW in early April.

Since he published his first A Song of Ice and Fire book, Game of Thrones, in 1996, he has taken at least five years to create each subsequent installment. The fifth novel, A Dance of Dragons, was published in July of 2011.  There is, in fact, a lot of speculation regarding Martin’s physical health.  Many fans are worried that he may actually die before completing the seven-book series.  However, Martin has made many public statements articulating that he is in no danger of checking out until he has fully completed his beloved saga.

Predictably, Martin’s readers are eager for more after a four-year mystical drought.  Martin is expected to have the sixth novel fully finished and published prior to the release of the sixth season of Game of Thrones in 2016.

While speaking at the Writer’s Guild West awards on April 11th, Martin teasingly advised his viewership to “be on their toes” for the next season of Game of Thrones.  Even his literary fans have something new to expect in the season which premiered April 12th.

“People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy,” Martin added coyly.
