Senior Talitha Jones as Elle Woods.

From the very first moment that curtains rose at AHS’s spring musical, Legally Blonde, I could tell that this would be a night full of energy, fun and a ton of pink. The musical just wrapped its final performance this past Sunday and each year the AHS musicals get better and better. The musical revolves around sorority girl Elle Woods, played by senior Talitha Jones. Woods goes on a journey to get the supposed love of her life back at Harvard Law. With the help of her sorority sisters from Delta Nu she gets into Harvard, expecting to reunite with her former boyfriend, but instead she finds herself.

When I went to opening night this past Friday, I was immediately hooked by the opening number, “Omigod You Guys.” The number sparked with energy and pizzazz. I was in shock of how I found myself singing along to the songs that I barley knew. It was impossible to not have a smile on my face and fall in love with the characters. I loved how relatable this musical was. I could easily picture myself getting lost in a number and put myself in the shoes of Elle or one of her sorority sisters.

Through the dances and Elle finding herself, she also finds love. Emmett Forrest, played by junior Lyon Hamill, is the complete opposite of someone Elle would normally date, but perhaps that’s what changes Elle for the better. From the rest of the Harvard student body, Elle gets a wake up call from reality. She finds herself not wanting to accept the lifestyle of becoming a law student and working hard at Harvard, but at the same time learns to embrace her new life.

Legally Blonde deals with a lot issues that teens face every day: self-acceptance, discovering new passions and exploring new horizons. Elle went from studying fashion to finding an interest in law and helping others. Going from one passion to another shows courage in finding yourself and sticking to what makes you who you are, no matter how much society may tear you down. Through all the contemporary dance and lovable characters you can wrap yourself up singing along to all the numbers.
