Halloween Costumes, Events, and Recipes

Every Halloween, someone shows up to school in the clichéd cat costume, so this year to avoid the overused cat ears, take a look at these new fun and easy ways to improvise costumes:

1)    Fork in the Road.

Everyone owns a black tee shirt, so all you will need to find for this costume is a plastic fork and white paper. If you cut out 4-10 white rectangles and then glue them in a line down the middle of your black tee shirt, the shirt should look like a road. Take the fork and glue it somewhere in the middle of the “road’ on your tee shirt, and for Halloween, you are all set to walk around telling people, “I’m a fork in the road!’

2)    Movie Theater Floor

A hot glue gun, popcorn, candy, and a black shirt is all you need to transform into the movie theater floor. Use the glue gun to put pieces of candy and popcorn on your shirt and in ten minutes, you will have created one of the more creative Halloween costumes seen at your school.

3)    Pig in a Blanket

Aspen is freezing during Halloween; so if you want to stay warm, wrap yourself in a blanket and glue on a homemade pig nose. You’ll be warm in an easy to make and inexpensive costume.

4)    Deviled Egg

The devil is a common costume for Halloween, but what about the deviled egg? Dress in all white and glue a yellow circle of construction paper to your stomach. Then if you don’t already have devil ears and a pitchfork, ask your neighbor, or take a trip to Carl’s to complete your spin of a Halloween classic.

5)    Where’s Waldo

Everyone at Aspen High School owns a striped black and red tee shirt because they have had to purchase one to show school spirit at some event. Whip it back out and wear some black leggings (girls) or black sweatpants (guys), and wear a red hat and you can pull off the Where’s Waldo look.

Also events on the night of Halloween include:

The Woodrow’s Halloween Party for grades 9-12 at Henry and Juliet Woodrow’s house on Cemetery Lane starting at 7:00pm and ended around 11:00pm.

Aspen Walking Tours, which are offered on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m on the night of Halloween. Aspen’s Dark Side Ghost Tours are also offered through Oct. on Tuesday and Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. Both tours last for an hour and cost $20 per person.

The Aspen Recreation Center is hosting their annual “Boo Bash” on the 31st. It will begin at 3:30pm and end at 5:30pm. There will be games and activities for the whole family.
