Juniors have huge changes to make, as AHS’s doors close, issues that do not directly involve AHS arise. Specifically, ACT and SAT testing. The current AHS juniors are having to make drastic changes to their education as they prepare to apply to college.

As colleges are beginning to suspend the need to submit the SAT and ACT scores, official testing dates are also being moved back. This is the test that most juniors study for the whole year. Students spend endless hours taking practice tests trying to get the scores they need for the college of their choice.

A current AHS junior, Hannah Yeary, has been affected by the changes that came with COVID-19. Not only has she just started IB courses, but she also has had to change her plan for the ACT and SAT testing.

“I have had to re-plan out how I will go about studying for my standardized testing, as well as coping with my IB classes and making sure that I retain all the knowledge before my second year of the course. It has been hectic, but I know that the school is properly equipped to help students with the transition,” Yeary said.

Maya Abraham is also at the forefront of these setbacks; she had plans to take the free test and cut back on other costs. Abraham, as an aspiring artist, is having to alter her testing plans due to COVID-19.

“I miss my classes, especially those that are not so easily shifted to an online format. It has been overwhelming having to change my plans for my SAT and ACT testing. It has been hard trying to change everything and has definitely put pressure on me to score well with much less time to do so,” Abraham said.
