Samuel Gibb, a current senior at AHS, will be taking a gap year and spending time traveling around the world to ski. Sam has been an avid skier since he was a child. He will also be entering the workforce, in order to pay for his travels.

Not all students go with the common college after high school route. Gap years have, over time, received a negative connotation. However, gap years can be a time to figure out what makes a person tick, what inspires them, and motivates them. It can be a time of discovery and growth.

“Taking this next chapter to do what I love will give me time to learn more about myself and what I want to do in the future,” Gibb said.

Sam has applied to several different schools, one of those being the University of British Columbia for the fall term of 2021. He wanted to be able to take the time to travel while also having the security of admission to a college in the fall of 2021.

“I applied so that I would know that when I came back from my travels I would have school waiting for me. Then I wouldn’t be as stressed entering the fall 2021 term,” Gibb said.
