Meet the College Counseling team

Meet+the+College+Counseling+team

The College Counseling team helps students who are in their junior and senior years think about college and their career, by not doing the work for them, but helping them as guides through the work. Having helped many students with financial aid, application submission, and much more, no student will go without help. Without them, we’d be lost in the sea of colleges and probably none of us would get accepted into any colleges. This team has been working with us for years now and every student thinking about college has gone through help with them.

Terry Rigney has been working with the college counseling team for four years now.  She helps students with sending applications to colleges, and helps students with financial aid or support. She sends applications all over, ranging from in the U.S., around Wisconsin or California, to Europe, in countries like Scotland, and Canada. Her best advice to students going into college is, “You don’t have to have it all figured out.”

Kathy Klug has been working at the school for 23 years, as of this year, now, with 18 years here at the High School and 4 years at the Elementary school as a reading specialist. She attended the University of Denver and has a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. She’s been working with the College Counseling team for 12 years. She helps students “fit and match” colleges, mainly small, liberal arts colleges. Her best advice to students going into college is, “Finding the best college is an exploratory adventure. You need to look at all the possible places and programs and people to see if a college is a good fit and match for you and where you can grow and become the best you. Have fun finding your future!”

Melissa Lustig is in her 3rd year at the High School, but she has 15 years of prior college admission experience. She works as a college counselor and a teacher, teaching the Discovery Class for second semester sophomores and juniors, which teaches students about college, careers, and ACT preparation. Her best advice to students going into college is, “First, all juniors should take Discovery, and research where students explore college options and financial aid, understand the application process, and learn how to best communicate their story. Second, students need to believe that college is possible for everyone. Finally, I advise students to start early and challenge themselves both in and out of the classroom.”
