With the chaotic world of Corona- filled with masks, loneliness, family, and being quarantined- why not make it into a song? Well, Twenty One Pilots did just that. There are only two members of the band Drummer, Josh Dun, and lead singer, Tyler Joseph. Their last album “Trench” came out in 2018, picking up where the band left off “exploring rugged emotional terrain in a style by turns cathartic and cryptic.” Apple Music stated.

Fans were not expecting a song especially during such a difficult time for many. This was until Joseph teased new material, tweeting on April 6th, “Always writing, but feel like it should come out now.”

The band didn’t want to keep their fans waiting and on April 9th released Level of Concern. The song encourages new hope during the Coronavirus Pandemic, including lyrics such as, “Wondering, would you be my little quarantine, or is this the way it ends?” In hopes of giving back to the community, a portion of the money the song makes will go to Crew Nation – a charity set up by Live Nation to help people working in the live music industry who have been hit by the Coronavirus.

Many fans were anxious to hear the new song but were just as anxious to see the new music video. It was popular amongst fans and the internet, reaching just over 20 million views. Different from other popular music videos, the video was simple and didn’t need crazy special effects to be popular. Bandmembers filmed themselves in their houses located in Ohio, using the resources around them to make the music video entertaining. The video features Joseph’s wife, Jenna, and his new baby Rosie. For many watching, this was the first time they saw the new baby, as she hasn’t been very public until now. The exciting news didn’t stop there, however, as many believe engaged couple Josh Dun and Debby Ryan actually secretly got married because ring sat on Josh’s left hand.

The fans and especially younger generations need more songs like Level of Concern to bring more positivity to a subject that can be discouraging. With so many songs about sadness or anger, this shows that fans don’t always want this. Sometimes people want to walk away from a song feeling inspired.
